Black Brocade Thick Winter Coat

This coat is absolutely gorgeous, well-made and warm! With the hood on I feel cocooned and protected from the elements. It is so thick and warm that I've only needed to wear a thin T-shirt underneath at 30F (-1C). I doubt I'll need to add much more than a cashmere sweater when the temperatures drop significantly lower.
Because the material is so thick I went up three sizes, keeping in mind the thickness of the coat (it's made of an outer layer of thick cotton brocade and an inner layer of cotton fleece) and to accommodate a sweater.
One thing to consider is that the buttons are sewn so close to the edge, so gapping could occur and cold air could pass through. I moved them about a 1/2 inch away so there's more overlap. With that said, you may need to go up one more size to accommodate for that.
Another thing is that there are no pockets. Most women's coats on this site don't have any, unless specified. If you're a skilled seamstress you can probably add them yourself.
All in all I love this coat. I don't mind going out in the cold knowing I can handle it with this beautiful coat!
